Originally, I discovered the world of painting after years of being a ceramic artist. The first series of birds came to me when I moved back to Silicon Valley after living in the country. I noticed small habitats of birds gathered in the bushes and trees in the older urban area of Campbell, California. In this town known for connecting computers and highway to people is where I began painting and reading about birds. Now, two female parakeets roam our house as vocal studies while chattering with the wild birds. There is something freeing about watching birds socialize by fluttering their wings, and puffing up their bodies to whisper soft chirps or speak in purposeful shrills while my computer hums in the background.
